About this costume:
This is my favorite pirate costume! I actually started with a packaged outfit and
had planned to wear that for Halloween. Unfortunately it just didn’t fit as nice as
it was supposed to right out of the bag. So I nipped, tucked and tweaked it until
it was just right, and added some of my own pieces. This outfit is a great example
of how you can take a pre-made costume and turn it into something unique.
How I made the costume:
Outfit:
I started with the Vixen Pirate Wench costume from Leg Avenue. I cut off the straps and entire black
velvet top area, took the front ribbon lacing off and cut the skirt shorter. In the end, the only part of the
original dress that shows is the sleeves and a tiny bit of the skirt. Over the dress is a black corset is by
Empire Intimates. I sewed the front lacing pieces to that corset, so it resembled the original outfit, but
with a real corset. The stripe skirt is something I already had in my closet. I cut the skirt in a jagged
triangle pattern and put red velvet in the open spaces. The red sash is the bottom part of the skirt that I
had cut off.
Shoes:
Leather thigh high boots by Dollhouse
Accessories:
I found the pouch at the dollar store and the hat is the Swahbuckler Pirate hat by Leg Avenue.
Hair & Make-up:
I did glamour make-up with heavy liner and false eyelashes, and the hair is a blonde wig. It is nearly the
same length and color as my hair, but sometimes it is easier to just throw on a wig than to take the time
to fix real hair.
